XBOX GAMES WITH GOLD FREE GAMES PREDICTIONS FOR MAY 2018

surge prey

Every month, Microsoft offers a few free games through its Games with Gold program. For this month of April 2018, players were granted Assassin’s Creed Syndicate from April 16 to May 15, The Witness from April 1 to 30, and Dead Space 2 for Xbox 360 from April 16 to 30.

While the official list for May 2018 has yet to be announced, we have a few predictions for what Microsoft might offer next month in terms of free games. Usually one or two larger games headline the list, and a contender for next month is The Surge: Complete Edition from Deck13 for a couple reasons. The first is that the game bundle is currently offered at a huge discount via the Xbox Live Gold membership regardless, taking the original price of $69.99 down to $23.10. When a title goes on sale for Xbox Live Gold members, its usually not long before it makes it’s way to Games with Gold after a few attempts to sell more copies at a lower price.

As well, the non-DLC bundled game is also on sale, with the original price of $49.99 being brought down to $12.50. The Surge: Complete Edition released back in December 2017, with the original game dropping even earlier in the same year in May. Usually Microsoft waits at least this long to consider adding a title to Games with Gold to ensure they don’t lose out on actual sales beforehand.

Finally, The Surge is also compatible with the superior processing power of the Xbox One X, and Microsoft will likely be looking to kill two birds with one stone with their free games service to offer titles that owners of both consoles can try whether it be HD or 4K.

A second likely title for Games with Gold is Prey from Bethesda and Arkane Studios, which also released back in May 2017. The game was very well received, and would be a great entry to Games with Gold in order for Microsoft to complete with the larger and impressive titles being released on its competitor Sony’s PS Plus service like Bloodborne and Ratchet & Clank in March 2018, RiME and Knack in February 2018, or Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain in October 2017. Bigger and popular titles like Prey are a smart investment to Games with Gold’s library to keep Xbox One owners happy when comparing to the service to PS4.

Check out page two where we look at a possible indie inclusion to make the Xbox Games with Gold list for May 2018.

INDIE

XBOX GAMES WITH GOLD FREE GAMES PREDICTIONS FOR MAY 2018

terraria

Usually, at least one popular indie title makes the Games with Gold list every month, and for May 2018 we feel it is likely that sandbox pixel title Terraria will make the cut.

In Terraria, the gameplay rests almost entirely in your hands. Whether you want to explore to collect resources to build better weapons and armor, seek and destroy enemy bosses, or simply create a base and spend your leisure time fishing, there’s tons for you to do in this procedurally generated 2D world. It released for PC back in 2011, and came to Xbox One in 2014.

The main reason Terraria would be a contender for Games with Gold is because it is currently already offered for free through Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass. With it already offered for free through one service, it seems more likely it will come to another, if not next month then sometime very soon.

Make sure to check back in a week or two when Microsoft officially announces the free games Games with Gold lineup for May 2018.
