Hey Listen, If The Legend of Zelda Series Is Real, It Needs to Be Like This

Adi Shankar, the producer behind the animated Castlevania series on Netflix, is confirmed to be working on another television series adaptation of a popular video game series. According to a story by The Wrap, Shankar is currently in talks to produce a series based on Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda franchise.

Although Nintendo has yet to comment on this adaptation of one of their most well-known franchises, we couldn’t help but come up with a few things that need to happen with Shankar’s series. The man has done such a stand-up job with the Castlevania series, so we think there’s a likelihood that a Zelda series can prosper and reach critical acclaim just as Castlevania has.

Please, No Live-Actionbreath of the wild

Everyone seems to be turning every video game franchise that we know and love into full-length live-action films, but we seem to never get animated adaptations such as the recent Castlevania Netflix series. The Legend of Zelda games ooze with charm, wonder, beautiful colors, and fantasy, so turning that into a boring, lifeless, realistic setting would mess up everything that Zelda is about.

Just look at how gorgeous Hyrule appears to be in Breath of the Wild, as well as the character animations. Zelda’s never looked or sounded better and seeing this art style in an anime format would be for the best and would just look plain cool. If Adi Shankar were to turn Breath of the Wild into an anime just like he did with Castlevania then you leave little to no room of error. I don’t know who would want a live-action version of Zelda, but those people are wrong.

Keep Link Quiet, Trust Me, It’ll WorkThe Legend of Zelda

Do you guys remember Samurai Jack on Adult Swim? That show did great and tons of people loved the show, but if you recall, Jack didn’t talk much. A show with a silent Link would be fine and I think diehard Zelda fans would not be upset at all; if anything they would be understanding of Link’s choice of not speaking –live-action or not.

While the most recent Breath of the Wild had voice acting for Zelda and the four champions of Hyrule among other minor characters, Link remained silent. As a mute hero, the point was to originally “link” the character to whoever is playing the game. The developers wanted people to be able to place themselves in the shoes of this young man, regardless of their background.

For the rumored television series, I want that same feeling that I have with the video games. A quiet world that Link has to explore, with trouble lurking around every corner and new locations/people to discover and connect with. We can connect with our tunic-wearing protagonist a little bit more if he lets us input our own voice instead of his.

Give Us a Unique and Original Story With Link and Zeldalegend of zelda

Girl gets captured. Link saves the girl. Ganon is defeated. Rinse and repeat. This tried and true formula that Nintendo constantly chooses to use for most Zelda titles –while effective– can sometimes get a tad repetitive (but hey, it works). For the T.V. series, It would be invigorating to get a whole new take on the dynamic trio, or even an all-new villain altogether, with Zelda taking on a role that she’s never done before.

We’ve already considered a few scenarios that could work extremely well if executed correctly. Imagine this: Link and Zelda are best friends right? Like they hang out every day after school, go to cafe’s to drink some Lon Lon milk lattes, and best friend stuff like that, but then one day, Zelda’s father –who is also Zelda and Link’s teacher– gets corrupted by an evil entity and becomes possessed. This leaves Link on a quest to exorcize the demon from Zelda’s father and of course, Zelda isn’t happy with this as exorcizing her father could possibly be fatal. Half of the show could revolve around Link finding a way to kill her father in order to save Hyrule and the other half about Zelda searching for a non-lethal method.

Okay, let me pause before someone snatches my marvelous idea. But you get the essence of it, just give me a unique story with a villain that’s not Ganon and you got yourself a pretty entertaining television series right there.
