Assassin’s Creed Valhalla was officially revealed today by Ubisoft with a gorgeous cinematic trailer, introducing fans to the next entry in the popular action-adventure franchise. Since the trailer was lacking actual gameplay footage and details, here’s a list of facts we know about Assassin’s Creed Valhalla that you might not know about.
It’s Coming to Next-Gen & Current-Gen Consoles
Even though there was only an Xbox Series X logo at the end of Ubisoft’s hot trailer for Valhalla, the title is still coming to PS4, PC, Xbox One, Stadia and the PS5 sometime in the holiday of 2020.
Also, and this has not been officially confirmed by Ubisoft or Microsoft just yet, but Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will reportedly be taking advantage of Microsoft’s Smart Delivery functionality, meaning that if you purchase the Xbox One version of Valhalla, you can play the Xbox Series X version at no extra cost.
As we already knew, CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 will also be taking advantage of the feature.
You Can Dual-Wield Axes
In previous Assassin’s Creed entries, you could technically dual-wield but never with two of the same weapon, but in Valhalla, you can wield two axes, swords, and even shields to defeat your opponents in ways you’ve never thought of before.
According to Ubisoft, the enemies you’ll be facing in Valhalla are the “most varied collection of deadly enemies ever found in an Assassin’s Creed game.“
Vikings were very versatile combatants and had many different tactics when it came to dealing with their foes and that historical element will definitely be brought into the world of Valhalla.
Customization Is Back in Full-Force
For some odd reason, this wasn’t revealed in the trailer for all to see, but yes, you can play as a female in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.
Not only can you choose your gender, but there will be tons of customization options to make your character stand out from the rest. There are different beards, tattoos, and war paint, and even your gear is customizable.
According to this Eurogamer interview with Ubisoft, you’ll also be able to upgrade and customize your settlement with new buildings such as barracks, blacksmiths, and tattoo parlors, while also being able to recruit new fighters to populate your army.
There Are Rap Battles
Found within the official site for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, there will be immersive actitivies for you to check out when you’re not whacking people in the face with your axes and those come in the form of traditional Norse activities like fishing hunting, gambling, and drinking games.
The most exciting of these new activities has got to be the inclusion of a Norse competition called ‘flyting,’ which is essentially a Viking rap battle, which just sounds awesome.
Flyting was practiced between the fifth and 16th centuries in England and Scotland and was just a clash of insults and quips. Hopefully in Valhalla, we’ll be able to choose our own ‘raps’ to brutally take down our rivals in a non-physical manner.
No Online Multiplayer Modes But…
Ubisoft has shied away from adding multiplayer modes to Assassin’s Creed games since the rocky (and buggy) release of Unity back in 2014 and Valhalla is no exception.
While the Dark Age open-world won’t feature any cooperative or competitive modes online, there seems to be a passive multiplayer component that allows players to share their custom raider with their friends.
According to a blurb on the official site, you’ll be able to “create and customize your own mercenary Vikings to share online, and reap the spoils when they fight alongside your friends in their own sagas. Recruit mercenaries created by other players, and add their strength to your forces.”
While it doesn’t seem like it’ll be the most compelling or exciting feature to check out, it would be neat to have your best buddies fighting alongside you and being a part of your Viking clan.
