Destiny 2 Warmind: Spire of Stars Raid Lair – Everything We Know So Far

This article is over 6 years old and may contain outdated information

Destiny 2 has just received a ton of new content in the form of the Warmind expansion. It has already brought new weapons, armor, story-missions and Crucible challenges to the game, and is set to add even more in the future. One of the biggest additions set to arrive in Destiny 2 Warmind is a new Raid Lair; Spire of Stars. Here’s everything we know so far.

When is it Coming Out?

Though the Warmind expansion for Destiny 2 launched May 8, players will have to wait a few days before jumping into the new Raid Lair. Spire of Stars will go live on May 11, bringing a whole new team-based challenge to the game. Despite releasing after Warmind, the new Raid Lair is still included in the DLC, meaning that if you bought it, it will automatically be added when it launches, free of charge.

Bungie has also released the exact timing of the Raid Lair release. Players will be able to play Spire of Stars on Friday May 11 at 10 a.m PST.

What is it Exactly?

Destiny 2 Warmind

Destiny 2 currently features one full-fledged Raid in the form of the Leviathan Raid. It tasks players with entering a Leviathan ship somewhere in the Nessus Orbit. On top of the main Raid experience, Bungie has since added a Raid Lair called Eater of the World, which takes place in the same location, but adds in a new story-line and set of challenges to complete. Raid Lairs are essentially mini-Raids, which is exactly what Spire of Stars is going to be.

Spire of Stars will be the conclusion to the Leviathan storyline, and will feature a small series of challenges culminating in a final boss. It’ll be the last time players visit the Leviathan to do battle, with Bungie moving onto new content afterwards.

Who Are We Fighting this Time?

Many had expected to be fighting the Hive in Spire of Stars, but if audio recently data-mined from the game are anything to go by, we’re actually fighting something different. The leaked audio contains 56 lines of dialogue from Emperor Calus. It seems that players will be facing off against the last remnants of the Red Legion, Calus’ band of loyal Cabal followers. There are some spoilers in the leaked audio for exactly how the Raid Lair will play out, so to keep it vague, it seems Emperor will be a huge part of Spire of Stars.

If the audio is to be believed, Spire of Stars will conclude the events of Destiny 2’s main campaign, and bring the Leviathan story-line to a close. Better gear up for a fight against some seriously dangerous Cabal warriors then.

Will There be New Weapons?

Destiny Raids have a tradition of introducing awesome new weapons, so it’s almost guaranteed we’ll see some in Spire of Stars. In fact, we have a very good idea as to what they will be, thanks to an image posted by concept artist Ryan Gitter. The images show off two new weapons; one being a fusion rifle and the other a side-arm of some sorts. It’s highly likely that these are the models that will be used in Warmind’s Spire of Stars Raid Lair, given that Gitter previously designed the ‘I Am Alive’ grenade launcher for the Eater of Worlds Raid Lair.

There may be more new weapons up for grabs in the Spire of Stars Raid Lair, but given that the first Raid Lair added in two weapons, this could be all we’re getting. They do look awesome though, especially the fusion rifle, so here’s hoping it packs a punch when Spire of Stars launches on Friday May 11.
