There is no shortage of video games releasing in the next few months. If you’re looking for the big fall 2019 games that you should definitely look forward to, here’s a handy-dandy list.
Borderlands 3 – Sept. 13
Borderlands 3 is back in action and this new entry from Gearbox brings with it more guns, more mayhem, and all of the irrerevent humor that you remember from almost a decade ago.
Borderlands 3 aims to take the best parts of what made the looter shooter successful and in turn, creating more of the zany cooperative gameplay that fans are used to –it’s simply more Borderlands and to be honest, it seems to work pretty well.
If you’re into crude humor while shooting monsters in the face with awesome guns, then Borderlands 3 should be on your radar for sure.
The game is launching pretty soon too, with a release date set for Sept. 13 –so only a few more days.
The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening – Sept. 20
No, Link’s Awakening is not a brand-new Zelda adventure, but it is a frame-by-frame remaster of the original Game Boy classic that came out in 1993.
Link’s Awakening plays like your typical top-down Zelda title such as Link to the Past, but this game is so different as Zelda and Ganon do not make an appearance at all –the game doesn’t even take place in Hyrule as a matter of fact.
This remake looks utterly charming, both visually and gameplay-wise, and will hopefully bring more attention to this underrated classic.
It’s coming out on Switch on Sept. 20.
Ghost Recon Breakpoint – Oct. 4
Ghost Recon Breakpoint is the next entry in Ubisoft’s tactical third-person shooter that takes place in the Tom Clancy universe. Being the narrative sequel to Ghost Recon Wildlands, Breakpoint takes place four years after Wildlands in a place called Auroa, a land full of diverse biomes.
Compared to Wildlands, Breakpoint will be more focused on survival elements, giving players options when it comes to dealing with enemies out on the field.
With cool new game modes, seamless open world co-op play, and several different character classes to choose from, Breakpoint is one of the big fall games that you should definitely be on the lookout for.
We recently ran through every tiny detail we could glean based on a preview event we recently attended if that’s your jam.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare – Oct. 25
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is sort of a soft-reboot of the critically acclaimed first-person shooter series and Infinity Ward will be doubling down on the narrative, making players decide on difficult decisions and dealing with heavily emotional moments.
Instead of being futuristic, like some of the recent Call of Duty titles have played around with, Modern Warfare will be, like the title suggests, a modern and realistic shooter that hopes to hearken back to the classic PS3/360 titles that put the modern take on the franchise on the map.
And don’t worry, there will still be intense squad-based missions and classic multiplayer modes that veterans will be accustomed to.
The Outer Worlds – Oct. 25
Did you like Fallout: New Vegas? Did you love Fallout 3? Do you like quirky open world FPS’ with helpful companions? Well, The Outer Worlds should be on your list for the fall.
Developed by Obsidian, The Outer Worlds is an attempt at recreating the greatness of the genre by having tight and responsive shooting, awesome weapons, variety in combat, and a huge sense of discovery.
We also checked out The Outer Worlds not that long ago and liked what we saw.
Luigi’s Mansion 3 – Oct. 31
Leave it to our timid hero, Luigi, to find himself in some of the worst situations. After being invited to a fancy hotel with his brother and co., the group ends up being kidnapped by King Boo.
Of course. Luigi somehow ends up being the one that has to rescue everyone while only having a vacuum cleaner to protect himself from the ghosts and ghouls that lurk in the haunted hotel.
Solving puzzles using the vacuum and uncovering secrets will be the main component of Luigi’s Mansion 3, but there are also some cool multiplayer modes that let your friends join in on the spooky fun.
Oh, and the game is coming out on Halloween –how exciting.
Death Stranding – Nov. 8
It still amazes me that Kojima’s new IP is actually, finally coming out this year. We’ve seen a bunch of strange trailers and gameplay segments that show off the main character peeing, using a briefcase to attack enemies, and babies –yeah, it’s very strange and very Kojima.
Considered to fall under a new genre called the Strand genre, the game seems to be all about making connections as Sam “Porter” Bridges makes his way across the United States to reconnect cities and society.
There’s not a ton of stuff that we know about this game such as the moment-to-moment gameplay, but we recently wrote up a feature all about what we do know about it, which you can read right here.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order – Nov. 15
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is a brand-new, narrative-driven, single-player Star Wars title that comes from Respawn Entertainment, the team behind Titanfall and Apex Legends.
In a world full of microtransactions, loot boxes, and online multiplayer, EA is really going all-in on delivering a strong action title that isn’t bogged down with controversial additions.
You can expect for this Star Wars title to have a deep combat system, exploration, and, hopefully, a Star Wars story that can stand next to the fantastic films.
Pokemon Sword and Shield – Nov. 15
Bringing in a new region, a bunch of new Pokemon, and huge blown-up versions of your favorite critters, Pokemon Sword and Shield are on their way to be one of the most unique mainline games in the Pokemon franchise.
Since it’s the first mainline game on the Switch, this is sure to be a huge hit once it launches this November.
Have you guys seen the Galarian form of Weezing? That’s really all Game Freak had to do to get me on board.
Doom Eternal – Nov. 22
Doom Eternal is the highly-anticipated sequel to the 2016 reboot of the series that is known for its fast-paced and frenetic gameplay that continues to remain unmatched.
The weapons look amazing, the combat looks faster than ever, and ripping heads off of monsters never looked so good.
If id Software and Bethesda give players the same feeling that they had with Doom, then Doom Eternal should be as good or even better than its predecessor.
