Defending 7th Heaven

7 Little Details You Might've Missed in the New Final Fantasy VII Remake Trailer

At the very start of the newest trailer for Final Fantasy VII Remake, we see Cloud and the others under attack from the same strange ghost creatures we saw in the previous trailers.

It’s hard to see, but the area under attack is actually 7th Heaven, the bar where Avalanche makes their base.

It’s hard to say where this scene might fit in terms of the overall story, as it’s likely not the section where Shinra launches an attack on the Sector 7 pillar, considering we don’t see any Shinra soldiers.

It also marks a difference from the original game, as 7th Heaven itself has actually never come under attack until now.

Brand New S.O.L.D.I.E.R. Character

7 Little Details You Might've Missed in the New Final Fantasy VII Remake Trailer

The latest trailer shows us the first brand new character introduced with the Remake, and it’s none other than a member of the elite SOLDIER force of Shinra, the same organization Zack Fair was a part of.

This marks another big difference in the Remake, as the original game never introduced us to any other SOLDIER characters besides Zack, Sephiroth, and Cloud (who wasn’t actually a member of SOLDIER).

A neat little detail is that this character uses the exact same sword that Zack Fair starts with in Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII.

Obviously, this quick scene could hint at more of a SOLDIER presence in the story, but we’ll have to wait and see how important or prevalent this new character is.

Frog Cloud Still Has a Sword

The new trailer gave us a look at the Frog status effect, which has a hilarious detail.

When Cloud is turned into a Frog he actually keeps the Buster Sword, with the massive blade still being strapped to his back.

Of course, he surely won’t be able to use it but it’s a hilarious detail that shows the Remake is still sticking to the goofy style of the original game.

Ifrit and Shiva

7 Little Details You Might've Missed in the New Final Fantasy VII Remake Trailer

This was a big trailer for the Final Fantasy VII Remake, as it also gave us our first look at Summons. Shiva is pretty easy to see in the trailer, but Ifrit also makes a split-second appearance.

Shiva uses her trademark Diamond Dust attack while Ifrit releases an Inferno on the enemy.

It looks like Summons will function similarly to the original game, unleashing a massive attack on the enemy.

Considering all of the HUD elements stay the same during the Summon sequences, it’s unlikely the Summon creature will stay in battle or anything.

Darts and Workout Minigame

There are two different minigames we get a quick look at, the first being darts in the 7th Heaven bar.

The original game was chock-full of little minigames to partake in, whether it’s the snowboarding minigame, crazy motorcycle, or playing basketball at the Golden Saucer.

It’s good to see the remake is still going to have minigames, and a particular highlight is the timing-based workout minigame we see.

If you’ve played the original, you know Cloud has to go to the gym and partake in a squat competition during the whole sequence when you get the dress for Cloud.

This section is likely, still, during that part.

First Look at Heidegger

This one can be easy to miss, because a split second later we’re looking at an image of President Shinra, but we also get a look at another Shinra villain, Heidegger.

Heidegger is a major villain in Final Fantasy VII, and one who’s involvement carries on well past disc 1.

Even better, we see the character’s trademark “Gyahaha” laugh, and considering Square Enix is overhauling so much of the story, it’s likely we’ll get to see more of Heidegger than before.

Sector VII Destruction

The trailer ends with an absolutely gorgeous shot of a sunset, but it might be difficult to tell what it is if you’re not looking.

The scene below the party is actually the horrific destruction of Sector 7, which happens near the end of disc 1 in the original. To the top left, you can see the plate of another sector of Midgar.

This scene is most likely from the section where Cloud and the party climb up the cables and infrastructure of Midgar to infiltrate Shinra HQ.
