5 Incredible Games That Deserve the Ghost of Tsushima Co-Op Treatment

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

As much as we love single-player, story-driven games, there is no denying that it’s always a blast to have another option that lets you play with friends. While some games may not make sense for this, we’ve seen in the past few weeks that even the most unlikely titles can receive co-op modes

With that in mind, we’ve created a list of five games we think should get new co-op modes next.

Final Fantasy VII Remake

Final Fantasy VII Remake changes a lot of things from the original game. Whether it’s the overall story or even the combat, the remake is essentially a completely different experience.

With those changes comes a unique open opportunity to implement a co-op system into the game. Thanks to the open movement of gameplay and the party member system, completing missions together cooperatively makes complete sense.

Getting to work together with friends using Cloud, Barret, Tifa, and Aerith would add a layer of depth to combat that would result in a whole new experience.

Desperado III

One of the most fun parts about Desperados III’s unique take on strategy and tactics is its Showdown mode. In this mode, you can set up coordinated attacks between the multiple characters you have control over to execute brilliant stealthy takedowns.

Now, imagine how cool it would be to be able to do that with three of your friends in co-op. You could work together to accomplish the mission or spread out and knock multiple objectives out simultaneously.

The game would obviously still have to adhere by the “dying equals game over” method of combat, but that isn’t all that different from how it feels to play and fail multiple times in single player.

CrossCode

co-op

Considering CrossCode is a game about a fictional MMORPG known as CrossWorlds, it makes complete sense to add co-op into the game.

You and your friends would be able to gallivant across the world, forming parties and completing quests just like Lea does with the NPCs in the main storyline.

Co-op based puzzles would also expand the variety of the gameplay, adding a complex layer to solving them akin to games like Portal. Ironically enough, there is an entire game within the game that can be expanded upon with the addition of being able to play with other people.

Doom Eternal

Doom Eternal, co-op

The only thing better than ripping and tearing through demons all night with a boatload of big guns? Be able to do so with your friends!

The fast-paced gameplay and open areas that make up combat in Doom Eternal are perfect for co-op. Players got a taste of this in the Doom 2016 version via SnapMap, which let people create and share their own content.

Unfortunately, SnapMap isn’t in Doom Eternal. The multiplayer mode in the game, Battlemode, is another snippet of just how fun it is to play the game with a friend. Now just let us play together through a campaign.

Resident Evil 3

While Resident Evil 3 did get a multiplayer mode in the form of Resistance, it wasn’t exactly the experience most fans wanted. The mode is a 4 v 1, with one player controlling classic Resident Evil monsters and the other four attempting to escape and survive.

The design and overall playstyle simply feels foreign from the original title, essentially making it an entirely different game altogether. Instead, Capcom should take a page out of a playbook from previous games in the series.

Nothing would be as enjoyable than getting to explore the campaign and combat Nemesis while controlling Carlos and Jill together. Sure, it would take some tweaking in the story for it to make sense, but the recent Resident 2 remake shows that Capcom isn’t afraid of adding multiple path playthroughs into its campaigns.

Even a horde mode in the style of Gears of War could work, as each level could increase the difficulty and provide different weapons and rewards, similar to The Mercenaries mode from past titles.
