The latest entry in the Far Cry series takes players to Hope Country, Montana. Overtaken by a savage, religious cult lead by the prophet Joseph Seed, you liberate outposts, save civilians, and help rebels take back the western territory from Seed and his three siblings John, Jacob, and Faith.

While the campaign can be played in single-player, it is also completely playable in two person online co-op so you and a friend can take back Hope County together. Only players in your friends list can join your game, and the host of the session is the only one of the two that will have the progression of the missions you play together. However, the other player will still get to keep any money, weapons, or perk points they collect while taking part in a co-op session to bring over to their own game.

The additional Far Cry 5 Arcade also offers a few multiplayer game modes where you can drop into various missions and maps with others. You can even create your own maps in a world creator mode to play in with your friends.

This fifth entry in the Far Cry mainline series has focused on co-op play more than ever, and fans of the series are already enjoying exploring the vast world together as duo, cultist-killing teams.

Far Cry 5 released for PC, PS4, and Xbox One on March 27.

Taking on the role of a pirate, in Sea of Thieves you travel on the seven seas in a shared online multiplayer world filled with islands, enemy ships, and even kraken monsters.

Groups of players can travel together and assume different roles on a pirate ship including steering, firing cannons, navigating the ocean, and hoisting sails. You’ll have to communicate together as a team to make sure you don’t fall victim to all the dangers hiding in Sea of Thieves’ world.

Two different weapons can be carried at once, and the four in-game weapons include a sword, flintlock, blunderbuss, and bolt-action rifle. In Sea of Thieves you embark on pirate-styled quests to get loot you can then use to buy new cosmetic items for your character and ship.

Sea of Thieves released for Xbox One and PC on March 20.

A WAY OUT

The co-op, prison-escape experience A Way Out is a game that focuses solely on two-person, couch co-op gameplay. It is the second ever game directed by Josef Fares who created the popular game Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons back in 2013.

There is no single-player mode in A Way Out; you either play in online multiplayer or couch co-op with one other person. However, local multiplayer is probably the better option as the game is meant to be a communicative experience relying heavily on teamwork, and being in a room together will further aid you in working as a team.

You play as two convicted prisoners Leo and Vincent, who work together to break out of jail while both of their stories are explored simultaneously. What’s interesting about A Way Out is that gameplay will not always be synchronized between the two players, as in split-screen one could continue to play while the other watches a mandatory cutscene before you sync up again as the story progresses.

If one person owns A Way Out, a friend can play online without also having to own the game. A Way Out released for PC, PS4, and Xbox One on March 23.

BRAVO TEAM

Bravo Team released earlier in the month on PSVR, offering a VR experience where you and two players team up to escape from a fictional modern day Eastern European country as a armed, military group while local politics tears the city you find yourself in apart.

While you can also play by yourself, Bravo Team is best played online so you and two others can communicate together to work through enemies who block your way. You could even use lingo from actual SWAT teams to decide whether you want to split up, stick together, to take down multiplayer enemies in one go with synchronized shots.

Bravo Team is a PSVR exclusive, and released on March 6. For more co-op suggestions, check out our best multiplayer lists for January or February 2018.
