Forgotton Anne

Forgotton Anne may be a puzzle platformer, but it is its story and characters that are the focus, rather than the gameplay. The beautiful world is sure to capture their imagination.

The story revolves around Anne, a young girl and one of just two humans in The Forgotten Lands, a world where all the real-world’s discarded items go to begin a life of their own. Anne is the Enforcer in the world, responsible for quashing the rebellion that’s begun to threaten the status quo. Throughline Games has created a deep, fascinating world, where each and every character is fully realized. Simply going along with Anne for the ride is a wonderful adventure, the puzzles are mostly simple, and the hand-drawn animations are wonderful throughout.

PixelJunk Monsters 2

Best PS4 Kids Games of May 2018

The first PixelJunk Monsters game, which is now more than ten years old, is one of the best tower defense games of all time. The sequel, that released last month, brings the series into the modern age with 3D visuals. It makes a few changes that are a little too far of a departure from what made the original great, but it’s still a good game. Although the idea of tower defense may be a bit complex for very young gamers, Monsters 2 is quite straightforward and not too challenging on the lower difficulties. It requires thought, planning, and quick reactions, but the world is colorful and charming enough that kids will likely enjoy their time with it.

Yoku’s Island Express

Best PS4 Kids Games of May 2018

Yoku’s Island Express is a curious melding of genres. It’s both an open-world platformer with Metroidvania-style progression, and a pinball game. Each small room works like any pinball machine, just a little-scaled back, and you need to collect the items you can and move onto the next room.

As long as young gamers can gets to grips with the basic idea of pinball, they’ll have a blast with Yoku’s Island Express. The open world is beautiful and varied, the puzzles are well designed and rarely frustrating, and there are loads of secrets to find. The inventive concept works far better than you’d imagine, and it’s unlike anything already available.
