Sega of America and Paramount Pictures have officially announced that the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movie will be co-produced by the two companies and will be releasing in theaters on Nov. 15, 2019 in the United States. After the U.S. premiere, the film will be rolling out internationally.
The Sonic the Hedgehog movie is planned to be the “next step” in the expansion of the Sonic the Hedgehog property, making him to be more than just a video game character. Sonic has already appeared in televisions shows, comic books, and mobile games, making him as big as a character as ever. The live-action film is planned to have CG animations and is being worked on by several veterans in the film industry, such as: Neal H. Moritz (Fast and Furious), Jeff Fowler (Gopher Broke), and Tim Miller (Deadpool).
This Sonic the Hedgehog movie news comes just a few weeks after the official announcement of the Super Mario movie, being co-produced by Shigeru Miyamoto and CEO of Illumination, Chris Meledandri. It seems that every company is trying to get their hands into the movie business these days. Maybe we’ll get an announcement tomorrow about a Mega Man or Crash Bandicoot movie – only time will tell.
