Word comes by way of a recent Variety article, which confirmed that the acclaimed musical maestro will indeed be making a return to Disney’s beloved series.

For those unaware, John Williams retired from the Star Wars franchise back in 2019, shortly before the release of Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker, which, at the time, marked his final foray into that galaxy far, far away. Now, it looks like the Obi-Wan Kenobi TV show may be his final swansong before bowing out from the Mouse House’s popular action-adventure franchise.

John Williams Obi-Wan Kenobi Show

Having first cut his teeth penning music for TV and a low-budget movie in the ’50s, the famous American tunesmith soon became synonymous with Hollywood cinema in the ’70s and ’80s. While collaborating with award-winning director, Steven Spielberg, the acclaimed composer managed to release hit after hit.

From Jaws’ simplistic piano tune, which went on to become one of the most terrifying scores in film, to the sweeping, emotionally-charged strings and brass of Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and Jurassic Park, John Williams fast became a household name in the music business and ubiquitous with the whole cinematic experience that we know and love so well today.

Long story short: it’s absolutely brilliant news to hear that Williams is returning to the Star Wars universe; one that he had such a meaningful impact in helping to create in the first place. And it bodes well for the overall feel and tone of the Obi-Wan Kenobi show, which is set to see Ewan McGregor reprise his beloved role for the first time in 17 years.

Obi-Wan Kenobi airs exclusively on Disney+ on May 25, 2022.
