5 Reasons Loki May Be Even Weirder Than WandaVision

WandaVision was the MCU’s first major foray into the world of television — sorry Agents of SHIELD fans. This show featuring witches and a fake sitcom that changed decades every episode, making for one of the strangest, most experimental work we’ve seen from Marvel Studios yet. However, a new contender is stepping into the ring of weird, as Loki is set to return to the MCU with his own series.

Now, the question begs as to whether the God of Mischief’s show will be able to be even more out there than the Scarlett Witch’s wacky romp? These are five reasons that Loki may actually be even weirder than WandaVision.

Loki’s Eccentricity

Loki is known for being the conniving and extremely unpredictable little brother of Thor, even going as far as to fake his own death and disguised himself as Odin in order to rule Asgard. But along with this unpredictability comes a (frost) giant dose of eccentricity, which was on full display when he became close buddies with the Grandmaster, as he is able to use his unique personality to blend in with and eventually deceive the ruler of Sakaar to help everyone escape.

Comparatively, WandaVision doesn’t have a single character that can match the quirkiness of Loki, as even the weird little Pietro impersonator, Ralph Bohner, isn’t anywhere near as goofy as the God of Mischief.

Having Loki in small doses throughout the MCU has added to the overall wackiness of the movies, so you can be sure an entire television series featuring this character will be completely absurd just because of who Loki is. And if what we’ve seen so far is any indication, this show is sure to deliver on all of the God of Mischief’s unique quirks.

Owen Wilson

Owen Wilson isn’t exactly known for his roles in action films — unless you count the cinematic masterpiece that is Shanghai Knights. Dramatic and comedic films like Midnight in Paris, The Darjeeling Limited, and The Royal Tenenbaums have been more of Wilson’s wheelhouse over his 20+ year acting career, portraying his ability to bring slightly quirky characters to life.

His zany role of Mobius M. Mobius in Loki may top any of the other characters, though, as he exists seemingly solely to presides over time crimes. Wilson’s personal touch will surely make it even more out there since he’s taking guidance on the role from Tom Hiddleston rather than the original comic version of Mobius.

The fact that the character’s full name is Mobius M. Mobius should be all the indication you need to prove that he’s probably going to be a weirdo. It is going to truly be a sight to see this character play off of Hiddleston’s Loki.

Inclusion of the Tesseract/Space Stone

Loki and Mobius are already strange enough, but things are sure to get even more unusual when you throw an Infinity Stone into the mix. During Avengers Endgame, the plan to obtain the Tesseract got a little messed up and a variant of Loki was able to obtain the powerful item.

This version of Loki is the one that the show will focus on, and it is important to remember that this isn’t the same one we know that grew closer to Thor following the Battle of New York. This variant is likely to still have a bit of an evil streak that could drive him to hunt down the Tesseract at any cost.

While Wandavision had some sort of an artificial Mind Stone, the Space Stone housed within this Tesseract is the genuine article. Granted, it’s not the one from the timeline we know that one was destroyed by Thanos, but it’s a real Space Stone nonetheless.

The magic in WandaVision made for some abnormal situations, yet alternate realities and variants of characters may be even odder.

Diverging Timelines

Back in Avengers Endgame, The Ancient One went into detail on what happens when an Infinity Stone is removed from any given timeline. Essentially, removing a single stone from a timeline breaks the regular stream of events and causes alternate realities to form. That’s why Steve Rogers had to go back in time and put all of the Infinity Stones back in place.

However, Steve presumably wasn’t able to return to the Battle of New York in order to return the Tesseract that Loki ended up getting his hands on. The Avengers didn’t think much of it at the time, but it’s clear the Time-Keepers had their eyes on the God of Mischief.

There’s no telling how many different realities our anti-hero will adventure through during this series, but if the teaser shot of Loki running for President is anything to go by, then we’re sure to be in for a wild ride.

Time-Keepers

This Loki series marks the introduction of the Time-Keepers to the MCU. According to the Marvel Fandom page, the Time-Keepers are a gift to the future. They’re supposed to warn the future universes about the mistakes of past ones. Secondly, they also exist to make sure that TVA employees (like Mobius) have a comfortable retirement.

However, there are even branching realities from this point. In one reality the Time-Keepers are distorted at birth and become the Time Twisters. They’re beings obsessed with finding the origins of the universe and traveling back in time with no regard for the chaos they cause. Another timeline sees the Time Twisters being destroyed at birth and being replaced with the true Time-Keepers.

Just based on the trailers, it looks like we’re going to get the Time-Keepers simply as the overseers of the time stream, but there are many other roads they could take with these new characters. No matter which way the MCU goes, it’s sure to only get weirder from here.
