Swapping Between Characters in Fire Emblem Warriors Three Hopes

The good news is that switching between characters in Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes is really easy. While on the battlefield, all you have to do is press up or down on the d-pad to cycle between your four different characters.

The only caveat is that you can’t switch between them while they’re locked in an animation. Aside from that, feel free to switch to your heart’s content. Whenever you’re not in control of a character, they’ll usually idle in whatever area you left them in, fighting enemies in their immediate vicinity. You’ll need to order them to head to a specific location or target certain units in order to get them moving, and you can do this via the map screen by pressing the + button.

Organizing Your Roster

One other thing to note is that you can deploy up to eight units in main story battles, but you can only take control of four of them.

On the battle preparation screen, your deployed units will have either a bright blue circle around their icon, or a slightly darker blue square around them. The circle indicates that they’re in a playable slot, while the square indicates that the character will be NPC-controlled.

Make sure to swap them around so that you have all your ideal units in a playable slot, allowing you to switch to them in the middle of combat.
