Destiny 2’s Bungie 30th Anniversary Event has brought with it a heaping of new weapons and armor. Xur is heavily involved, so obviously, exotics are going to be on the menu as well during this event. In this guide, we’ll go over the Magnum Opus quest, and how to get the Forerunner exotic sidearm in Destiny 2, a new weapon inspired by the beloved magnum pistol from the Halo series.
How to Get Forerunner Exotic Sidearm in Destiny 2 – Magnum Opus Exotic Quest
Fortunately for you, getting the Forerunner isn’t particularly difficult. It’s not free like season pass exotic weapons, so it’s not that easy, but the exotic quest to get Forerunner isn’t long and will only take you a few hours of grinding or so.
First, go ahead and complete the introductory quest that you get automatically launched into when you fire up the game for the first time now that the 30th anniversary event is live. Or, if you disconnected for whatever reason, you can visit the new Eternity location on the director and queue up Dares of Eternity. Complete the run and return to Xur as the quest demands. After finishing up the last step, you’ll be able to accept Magnum Opus, a new exotic quest that will reward Forerunner.
The first thing you need to do is complete Starhorse bounties. These are purchased from the Starhorse in Xur’s Treasure Horde with Strange Coins. For more on how to get Strange Coins check out our guide here, the most fun/easiest way, though, will just be to go ahead and repeat Dares of Eternity.
The Starhorse bounties are tricky because you must complete them in one run, so you have to play decently well to complete them. However, you can choose to do either three “easy” bounties (the lower costing ones), a medium and either second medium or an easy bounty, or one hard bounty.
After completing that step, you’ll be asked to reach Brave rank for Xur’s reputation and then purchase the Strange Key. Play some Dares of Eternity and complete some daily Xur bounties if you want as well to get that going.
Once you’ve done that and have the Strange Key, go to the back of Xur’s Treasure Horde until you see the purple whispy transport. This will bring you back to Eternity’s The Valley area.
From when you zone in, head over to the pile of rocks on your right-hand side and use the Strange Key at the prompt. It will then direct you towards another area of The Valley where you will need to ride a floating… ball thing, and then complete a short jumping puzzle. It’s nothing too crazy. At the top of the structure the prompt is having you climb, you’ll find an unrestored version of Forerunner which will you then bring to Banshee-44 in the tower to restore to the Forerunner proper.
That’s it you have your weapon! To recap, here’s how to get Forerunner in Destiny 2’s Bungie 30th anniversary event:
