Cris Tales, a love letter to colorful RPGs of yesteryear, with a modern feel, has finally released on PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and PC. The game’s art style really pops and you’re often treated to some lovely voiced cutscenes featuring the game’s characters, including the hero: Crisabel. Although in a lot of ways it’s a traditional RPG, there are some modern changes that mix up the usual turn-based battle staples. In particular, if you’re here, you’re probably having some trouble with parrying and deflecting attacks in Cris Tales. Here’s what you need to know.
How to Parry & Deflect Attacks in Cris Tales
Parrying and deflecting attacks is extremely important to succeeding and doing well in Cris Tales without going over the top with grinding. Deflecting attacks dramatically reduces the amount of damage you take, and it can also even prevent status effects from landing. By ignoring this mechanic, you’re going to make Cris Tales much, much harder than it needs to be.
To parry and deflect attacks, you need to time the press of your interact button (A on Xbox, X on PlayStation, B on Switch) right before the animation of the enemy’s attack finishes.
This can, honestly, be a bit frustrating when the enemy’s attack doesn’t have a clear animation, such as a ranged attack that you can physically see heading towards you. Sometimes, it’s just the enemy moving a little, but the same logic applies. Press the parry button right before the enemy’s animation ends.
It definitely takes some practice to get used to the timing, and there’s, unfortunately, no trick to avoiding having to do it. However, with some time, you should get used to the timing, even with the more tricky to see attacks. Mastering the parry in Cris Tales is crucial because, without it, you’re going to be riding the struggle bus throughout the whole game, that’s a promise.
That’s all you need to know for how to parry in Cris Tales. Check out our recent coverage of this colorful RPG from Modus right here.
