Fortnite Hideouts: What They Are & How to Use Them

Hideouts in Fortnite were introduced into the game a good few seasons ago. No, these aren’t some badass villain’s lair. Instead, they offer a secure hiding spot for players when they’re being hunted by other players… or they’re just playing the long game and hiding out as long as they can until they get the W. In this guide, we’ll run you through what Fortnite hideouts are, so you can make use of them.

What Are Fortnite Hideouts?

Hideouts in Fortnite are ordinary objects that players can hide in around the map. These can be haystacks in a farmer’s field, a dumpster round the back of a building, tunneling underground in the sand or even a porta potty.

Players can hop inside these items to hide from other players who may be chasing them down or just around the general area.

How to Use Hideouts in Fortnite

To use a hideout, you’ll need to make sure that the object actually allows you to hide inside it. You’ll know that you can if you walk over to an item and it allows you to interact with it by pressing X on Xbox One/ Square on PS4.

Do so and your character will hop inside. You can use the right analog stick to look around the Fortnite hideout without the risk of you jumping out or giving your position away.

When you’re ready to hop back out of a hideout, simply press the A/X button to hop back out of cover. Keep in mind that you won’t be able to use your weapon for a second or two while the ‘exit’ animation of a Fortnite hideout is completed.

That’s everything you need to know on Fortnite Hideouts, including what they are and how to use them to your advantage. For more on the game, head on over to our wiki, or check out more of our coverage on the game below.
