This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Developed by Counterplay Games and published by Gearbox Software, Godfall is a brand new looter-slasher game that’s just been released for the PS5 and PC via the Epic Games Store. The game is structured similarly to something like Destiny, where you can do instanced missions with a team of three people, and fight tough bosses for better loot and equipment. If you’re wondering whether Godfall is an open world game, here’s what you need to know.

Is Godfall Open World? Answered

To put it simply, no, Godfall is not an open world game, at least not in the traditional sense of the term. If you were hoping for a large open world to explore like in The Witcher 3 or Skyrim, with tons of optional quests to pick from NPCs, you’re going to be disappointed here.

Godfall allows you to pick missions from a world map in the hub world, and from there, you’ll be transported to various levels and environments that you can explore. You’ll be able to farm for resources and loot, and you’ll also be fighting tons of regular enemies and bosses along the way. However, these levels are usually pretty linear, and while there are some optional chests for you to open, we certainly wouldn’t call this an open world game.

Once you’ve progressed far enough into the game, you’ll also be able to do patrol-like missions in various regions, where you get to explore an area with no set objectives. This is about as close as you’ll get to open world exploration in Godfall, and even then there’s not all that much to do in those instances aside from participating in events and farming enemies for more loot.

It’s best to approach this game primarily as a looter game that you can enjoy with friends. You’ll be doing pretty similar content and missions for most of the campaign as you try to grind for better gear by the time you reach the end game.

That’s all you need to know about whether Godfall is an open world game. Be sure to search for Twinfinite for more tips and information on the game.
