Teyvat is a huge, sprawling open-world full of places to discover and secret to unlock. And chests. Lots and lots of chests. But do chests respawn in Genshin Impact or is there a limited supply? Does that mean it’s best to wait until later in the game to open precious and luxurious chests? Here’s what you need to know.
Do Chests Respawn in Genshin Impact? Answered
As alluded to above, there are four different types of chests in Genshin Impact: Common, Exquisite, Precious, and Luxurious. Starting from Common and working upward, each offer increasingly better rewards.
But once you have found them and opened them, that’s it. Chests do not respawn in the game. We’ve tried opening them and then returning later, including quitting the game and turning off our console/phones to see if that made a difference. So far, no chests have respawned.
Update 10/02: New information from YouTuber ZealsAmbitions suggests that some common chests will respawn across the map. This is after he spoke with Chinese players who have already reached Adventure Rank Level 40 and noticed that a small number of chests have reappeared across the open-world.
However, our original information still applies given that respawning is not reliable and not applicable to higher tier chest types like Precious, Exquisite, etc.
For that reason, if you are wondering whether it’s better to save higher rank chests until later in the game, then yes, it’s probably a good call. That’s because the game scales your rewards with your level, and later in the game you’ll be wanting for higher-level items and weapons if you’ve opened all the best chests at a low level.
We’ve seen some players lament this system as they worry that the open world will feel empty towards the later game/end game without chests to find and open. It’s too soon for us to say whether that’s going to be the case, though in our 10 of so hours of playing we’ve found absolutely hundreds of them. There’s certainly no shortage at the moment.
It seems that progression in the end game is going to come down to completing daily quests and challenges, as well as farming Domains. Whether removing exploration as a focus toward the later game will impact Genshim Impact’s overall gameplay loop only time will tell.
It’s worth noting that as a live-service game, things are always subject to change.
For now, that’s everything there is to know about if chests respawn in Genshin Impact. For more useful tips and guides on the game, check out our wiki page.
