The trailer sci-fi fans have been waiting for is finally here, as Warner Brothers released the official first look at Denis Villeneuve’s new Dune film earlier today.
Timothée Chalamet takes center stage in the video, as a voice-over explains the basic premise of the film’s conflict. His character, Paul Atreides, must succeed where his ancestors failed, tasked with rule over and guiding a planet full of people while also defeating an imminent threat to his future reign.
For the uninitiated, the film is an adaptation of Frank Herbert’s 1965 science fiction novel of the same name. To this day, the original book is credited as one of the most influential sci-fi novels of all time.
While an attempt was made at adapting the book back in the 70s, production was unsuccessful – so much so it spawned its own film, Jodorowsky’s Dune, detailing the failure.
From what the trailer shows, Villeneuve is already going in the right direction, thanks in part to a huge cast of award-winning stars.
Of that star-studded cast, it’s Jason Momoa and Dave Batista that stand out the most. The former feels like the charming, exuberant older brother to Chalamet’s character, while the latter is almost unrecognizable, playing the role of an antagonist.
Other notable actors seen in the trailer include Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Stellan Skarsgård, and Zendaya.
The video closes with one of the most notorious creatures in all of the series, showing off the sheer scale that the series’ Sand Worms possess.
Dune is set to release in theaters on December 18, 2020. For more updates, as well as possible delays, be sure to check back to Twinfinite for all of your entertainment and movie news.
