Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers
If you haven’t tried out Final Fantasy XIV yet, you might want to reconsider that, as Shadowbringers looks like it will contain some of the very best content the MMORPG has received to date. Final Fantasy XIV’s already stellar story goes an interesting new route as the Warrior of Light embraces the darkness, and uses its power to travel between realms.
Outside of a brand new story and area to explore, Shadowbringers also provides a fresh batch of core content. You can choose from two new races for your characters, the Viera and Hrothgar, and the wildly different jobs of Gunblader and Dancer also get added into the mix.
On top of all that the level cap is increased to 80, a new feature lets you delve into dungeons with AI companions, and New Game + lets you replay past missions with all of your current progression and skills.
Final Fantasy XIV is already a massive MMO with a very active player base, and Shadowbringers only provides more quality content. Whether you’re a longtime player or a new one, now’s a great time to jump onboard.
Sea of Solitude
Sea of Solitude made quite an impact when it was announced, due to its striking Ghibli-esque art style. The latest game from the EA Originals program, Sea of Solitude has all the makings of a cult classic indie game.
The game casts you as a young girl named Kay, who’s turned into a strange red-eyed monster and has to explore a submerged city. As you explore the city you’ll meet other monsters, both friendly and hostile, and learn their stories.
You’ll need to solve puzzles and explore as much of the city as possible, and as you progress through the game water levels in the city will change, opening up new areas and pathways.
In a year filled with lengthy AAA experience, Sea of Solitude may just be the artistic reprieve we need on PS4 in the middle of Summer.
Dragon Quest Builders 2
Dragon Quest Builders took the Minecraft formula and adapted that into the charming world of Dragon Quest. Dragon Quest Builders 2 makes that experience even bigger and better, telling a brand new story where you have to rebuild a ravaged world.
It’ll be easier than ever to get around the world this time, as you now have access to fast travel, sprinting, gliding, and much more. Of course there’s plenty of new materials to use, structures to build, quests to take, and crops to farm.
The real main attraction, however, is the addition of co-op multiplayer, letting you build and battle with up to three friends online. As fun as Dragon Quest Builders is, the ability to play with friends could be a total game changer. If you’re looking for a more structured Minecraft experience, Dragon Quest Builders 2 on PS4 is the perfect pick for you.
Wolfenstein: Youngblood
Wolfenstein: Youngblood is a brand new story for the series, taking place roughly two decades after Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus. You play as the twin sisters Jess and Soph Blazkowicz, as they travel to Paris in search of their lost father, BJ Blazkowicz.
Of course, the big change for Youngblood is the addition of co-op multiplayer, letting you and a friend blast your way through the Nazi regime. If you want to simply play through on your own though, you can do that with an AI partner.
Another big difference in Youngblood is how it splits away from the linear level design of Wolfenstein II, instead opting for a more non-linear approach to levels, letting you tackle them in new ways. There’s also going to be plenty of bold new weapons and guns to use on your rampage.
Wolfenstein II is easily one of the best shooters of this generation, and hopefully, Youngblood can keep up that level of quality, while adding on a fun new co-op experience.
