Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled: How to Customize Your Kart

This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

The Bandicoot’s revival continues with Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, a full remake of one of the ’90s’ most popular kart-racers. As you’d expect, a stack of new features have been added for this updated version of the game. This includes much more in the way of customization. Here’s how to customize your kart in the game if you’re struggling to work it all out.

How to Customize Your Kart in Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled

The first thing to note about customization is that it is something you’ll only be able to do by playing the game in ‘Nitro-fueled’ mode. If you start an adventure in the ‘Classic’ mode, you won’t have access to customization options.

Once you have selected a mode, you’ll see a menu with several different options: return to the characters screen, Ready up for the race, randomize, or a Karts option. First, choose your character, then when the game brings you back to this same menu, hit the ‘Karts option.’

This will bring you into a new menu where you can then change the body, wheels, paint job, and decals on your car.

How to Unlock Different Options

There aren’t many customization options unlocked from the beginning –four or so different paint jobs, only one or two different sets of wheels, etc– so you’ll need to win races and then use the winnings to purchase these from the Pit Stop (in-game store) if you’re wanting to unlock them all.

To give you an example of cost, the Electron Green paint job costs 1500 gold coins, and the Electron Team Cortex wheels are 2500.

In terms of how many coins you earn at the end of the race, well, that can differ quite dramatically based on where you place. We’ve had anywhere from 100 to 1000 coins.

Basically, if you keep winning and keep challenging yourself to progress through the game, it seems as though most of the customization options are fairly easy to unlock.

That should be everything you need to know about how to customize your kart in Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled. For more useful tips and guides on the game, check out our wiki page.
