Potential Sonic Movie Leak is Mischievous But Not Malicious

This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

It seems as though the internet is not a safe place for kids anymore.

If the horrendous Momo Challenge doing the rounds isn’t enough to put fear in the hearts of parents worldwide, we may have finally seen the intended design for the eponymous blue star of the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog film.

Coming courtesy of Californian graphic designer Hamagami/Carroll, the design brief shows off the kinds of poses one might expect from the Sega mascot, including running, smirking and holding a precious golden ring.

In fairness, the design isn’t actually too far off the mark, and isn’t nearly as jarring as early teasers led us to believe. The issue of Sonic’s bizarre eyes was rectified fairly reasonably with the use of white fur, though the fact that they also used that same trick for his hands instead of simply giving him gloves doesn’t quite match up.

Though the leak is unconfirmed and has since been removed from the Hamagami/Carroll website, the lengths to which the design is broken down would suggest that it is fairly accurate to what we will likely see in the final film.

Marketing buffs will be pleased to know that Sonic’s brand personality has also been established.

There’s still no official word from Paramount Pictures, Sega or Sonic the Hedgehog’s social media accounts (the latter of which has been uncharacteristically quiet as of late), but the vociferous response of horrified fans has certainly filled in for their absence.

Due for a November release, the live-action reimagining of everyone’s favorite anthropomorphic speedster sees a local cop from the rural town of Green Hills mixed up in a government plot to snag Sonic, and stars James Marsden and Jim Carrey as Dr. Ivo Robotnik.

The film has been hit with negativity at every juncture, but hey, at least they’re talking, right?
