Life Is Strange 2 to Receive macOS and Linux Ports Next Year

This article is over 6 years old and may contain outdated information

Life is Strange 2 Episode 1 is now available on Windows PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4, which leaves macOS and Linux owners without a playabe copy of the game. However, Square Enix and DONTNOD Entertainment won’t ignore that injustice and will soon publish a macOS and Linux version of the game.

Earlier today, Feral Interactive announced it was in the middle of porting the sequel to DONTNOD Entertainment’s game Life is Strange. Feral Interactive has a history of developing Linux and macOS versions of games, including Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Tomb Raider, and Bioshock Remastered. And the previous Life is Strange games.

While Feral Interactive ported the original Life is Strange and Life is Strange: Before the Storm to macOS and Linux, the studio worked on the titles long after all the episodes were released to the gaming public. Life is Strange 2 marks the first time Feral Interactive will port an episodic game while it is still in development, which raises questions regarding upcoming release windows. We could potentially see future macOS and Linux versions of Life is Strange 2 episodes launch alongside Windows, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 versions.

The original Life is Strange was nominated for and won several awards, including the BAFTA Games Award for Best Story. The game seamlessly weaved together a tale about a homosexual relationship, college drama, murder, and fantastical time-bending superpowers, so it deserved the award. While Life is Strange 2 is nowhere near complete, it appears to follow in its precursor’s footsteps by mixing comic book-esque powers and real-world problems. Only time will tell if the game lives up to its legacy and wins its own awards, including BAFTA Games Awards.

The macOS and Linux versions of Life is Strange 2 are scheduled to release in 2019, but we do not know when the other episodes will be available on any platform.
