Pokemon: Detective Pikachu is a live-action adaption of the 3DS title that released earlier this year on the Nintendo 3DS, which stars a talking Pikachu who works as a detective in Rhyme City. In the video game, Pikachu partners up with Tim Goodman to search for his missing father, who was also Pikachu’s old partner in crime. We don’t know if the plot of the film will feature the same story, but we do know that Ryan Reynolds will be providing voice and motion capture for the role of the famous electric mouse, Pikachu. Other Hollywood actors are also set to star in the film like Justice Smith (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) and Kathryn Newton (Big Little Lies).

Filming for Detective Pikachu started earlier this year in London with Rob Letterman (Goosebumps, Shark Tale) directing. The script is also being written by Nicole Perlman and Alex Hersch (via IGN).

Pokemon: Detective Pikachu will be premiering on May 10, 2019, with Warner Bros. distributing. Meanwhile, check out our Great Detective Pikachu review if you haven’t played the 3DS game yet!
