How to Transform and Capture Enemies in Super Mario Odyssey

Recommended Videos

Fans have been waiting a while for a new 3D Mario game, and it’s finally here with Super Mario Odyssey on Nintendo Switch. As with most Mario entries, Odyssey introduces some pretty unique features, giving everyone’s favorite plumber even more abilities to get around. Of course, the biggest new feature of Super Mario Odyssey is the ability to throw Cappy and capture or take control of enemies. There’s a wide variety of things you can transform into in Odyssey, with everything from traffic posts to a T-Rex.

Luckily it’s pretty easy to transform into creatures or objects, but it’s not entirely obvious which ones you can capture. To throw your hat all you have to do is press Y or X, and throwing it into something that is capturable will let you do so.

You can’t capture everything in Super Mario Odyssey, though. Basically you’ll want to look out for small, subtle clues in how things are different. For example, this could come down to a group of Goombas, in which one is slightly bigger than the rest. Of course some will be obvious, like taking control of bolts of electricity to travel across gaps, or capturing a telescope to boost up and get a better view. If all else fails, you can simply throw your hat at everything you see to try and capture it. Experimentation is going to be key to finding everything that Super Mario Odyssey has.

And that’s all you need to know to capture enemies in the game. For more on Super Mario Odyssey, be sure to check out our ever-expanding wiki.
