Getting around the world in Horizon Zero Dawn can take some serious time if you’re just running around as Aloy. To make things worse, if you don’t have the correct materials, you won’t be able to craft a fast travel kit if you’re stuck out in the middle of nowhere. Fortunately, a faster form of transport can be found nearby. Here’s how to ride robots in Horizon Zero Dawn.

During the opening hours of Horizon Zero Dawn, Aloy will get the ability to control and override the machines with her spear, and this is the first thing you’ll need to do to ride robots. To do this in the game, you’ll need to adopt a stealthy approach, and creep up to a robot undetected. Make your way around to the back of the robot and you should be given the on-screen prompt to override the machine. Simply hold Triangle and Aloy will override the machine and turn it friendly.

Once you’ve overridden the robot, simply press Triangle next to it when the prompt appear and Aloy will automatically hop on the back. Once you’re on the back, you’ll need to tap X to get your machine up to speed, then simply use the left stick to move around while you ride robots.

At the start of the game, you’ll be limited to the robots you can ride. However, as you progress through Horizon Zero Dawn, you’ll be able to override and ride more robots. It’s worth noting, however, that while you can ride robots in Horizon Zero Dawn, you can’t ride all of them. Some robots will be combat machines, and will fight alongside you in battle if you override them.

That’s all you need to know to ride robots in Horizon Zero Dawn. For more tips, tricks, and guides for the game, be sure to check out our ever-expanding wiki guide.
