Movement
If you’ve spent any amount of time in Titanfall 2’s multiplayer, you’ll notice that everything is incredibly fast-paced. Players will zip around the map avoiding incoming fire from Titans, using walls, grapples, and just about anything in sight to sprint around.
Learning to play and move in this style is incredibly important in Titanfall 2. Wallrunning and sliding around will make you more difficult to kill, and your grapple can pull you out of a tough situation in the blink of an eye. Spend some time getting to grips with the way the game handles when you’re a Pilot, as this is when you’re at your most vulnerable.
Right Weapon for the Job
Although Titanfall 2 doesn’t really make a point of telling you this, your primary and secondary weapons for your Pilot are basically your weapons for dealing with the two different types of enemies you’ll come across. Your primary weapon is what you’re going to be using to pick off other Pilots and grunts running around the map, whereas your secondary weapon is your anti-Titan weapon capable of dealing far heftier amounts of damage to the towering metallic beasts. Making sure you’re using the right one for each scenario will see you tearing through enemies much more effectively, but there’re other things to consider too.
If you prefer to sit back and pick your enemies off, take a look at some of the other weapon classes. There are sniper rifles and LMGs for those who like to sit back, or shotguns and submachine guns for those who like to get up close and personal.
The same applies for your Titan. Make sure that you’re making good use of not only its standard attack, but its special attack for dealing big chunks of damage to other Titans. Mixing and matching these to take down the different enemy types you’ll find is detrimental to your success.
Defense
Of course, it’s not always about going out for the kills in Titanfall 2. Sometimes, you’ll need to hide it out in order to regenerate your health, keep your cash balance high in Bounty Hunt, or just until your Titan comes down. Learning to just take a few seconds to kick back and stay out of the action is important, and it shouldn’t just apply for when you’re a Pilot either.
Hopping into your Titan will make you feel all-powerful, but misuse of your giant mech friend will see it falling in a matter of seconds. You’ll need to remember to make good use of cover, your Titan’s defensive move, which is tethered to L1 or LB, and the Dash ability. Dashing out the way of incoming fire is particularly handy when things get too much, and your defensive moves can help save your bacon from what would have otherwise been a finishing blow.
Objectives
While a lot of Titanfall 2’s game modes focus around players simply killing one another, as well as every AI enemy they see, there are a few that still require you to have a primary focus on objectives. Amped Hardpoint and Capture the Flag both put objectives first, and while it’s easy to simply go for kills in these game modes, focusing on the objectives will help your team to succeed and reward you with more Merits and Credits come the end of the game.
As for Bounty Hunt, which still has a primary focus on you killing a ton of enemies, don’t forget to hit up the Upload Banks at the end of each round. Depositing any cash you’ve built up in the round to one of these banks will get your team a nice little bonus on top of what you’ve already earned. Plus, it’ll save you from losing 50% of it every time you die.
Learn the Maps
Whatever game mode you’re playing in Titanfall 2’s multiplayer, learning the maps is one of the most important tricks to succeeding. Knowing Upload and Capture Point spawn locations will help you subconsciously start planning your route out towards them before they even appear on your map. What’s more, you’ll begin to automatically know where to wallrun and where particular choke points on the map are.
Simply put, if you’re familiar with the maps, it’s one less thing to have to think about. You can get around much more easily, pick out the fastest routes, and know the best places to pick up some easy kills, and just focus on bringing the points in. It’ll take some time, but it’s crucial to your success.
Upgrades
As you play Titanfall 2’s multiplayer you’ll earn Credits for completing matches, performing well, and leveling up your equipment. While this is all well and good, there’s no point in having those Credits if you’re not going to spend them on something.
Make sure you’re taking some time to browse the different weapons, Titans, and abilities that you can unlock with your newly-acquired credits. There’s a ton of incredibly powerful weapons and abilities that you’ll need to unlock with Credits so don’t let them just sit there. Put them to good use and up your game in the process.
Network
Titanfall 2’s Networks are basically a way of meeting like-minded players and taking down opponents together. While this may not seem like a tip as such, playing in a team and communicating effectively will almost certainly give you an advantage over your opposition.
Even better, if you play with people from whichever Network you choose to join during the designated ‘Happy Hour’ times, you’ll earn double Merits, allowing you to rank up much faster, too. Not too bad at all.
