It’s official. After months of speculation and rumors, Google announced it would officially shut down its cloud gaming service, Google Stadia. Players will still have the option to play until it formally shuts down on Jan. 23, 2023. They also announced they would refund all Stadia purchases and all game and add-on content purchases made through the Stadia store. But when will the refunds occur? Today let’s discuss how to get a refund for Google Stadia purchases.
Will Players Get a Refund for Google Stadia Games? Answered
For the short and sweet answer, yes. Google announced they will refund ALL purchases in regards to Stadia, not including the actual subscription fees. This includes Stadia hardware, game, and add-on content purchases too. They expect all refunds to be completed by mid-January, 2023. However, they did not announce how the refunds will occur. Here’s a statement from their help page:
“We are working through this process now and will keep this article updated as we define the process for each of the countries and different situations. Our intent is to have the majority of refunds processed back to the original payment by January 18, 2023.”
From this point on, you will no longer be able to make purchases through the Stadia store either. This includes games and add-on content purchases. Pre-orders will also be canceled and refunded at a later date as well. Physical stores such as Best Buy or the Google Store for example will not be able to process any returns or refunds.
That’s everything you need to know on how to get a refund from Google Stadia purchases. It is unknown when Google will announce how they will handle refunds, but we’ll be sure to update you as the information is released. For more news and frequent updates, check out our related articles below.
