knuckles, sonic the hedgehog 2 movie

Idris Elba Will Be the Voice of Knuckles in the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Movie

The Sonic the Hedgehog movie franchise is the gift that keeps on giving. Just like Sonic’s Twitter persona over the years, the movie itself is part serious and equal parts memes. So it makes total sense, then, that Knuckles in the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie would be played by acclaimed and beloved actor Idris Elba.

Just in case that isn’t enough proof for you, Deadline confirmed the tease.

The first Sonic movie was destined to be a disaster. The over-dramatic and corny stories of the recent 3D Sonic games set the stage for the entire planet to not take anything Sonic-related seriously. And, on top of that, the original look of Sonic was absolutely horrific. At best, people were just pulling for it to be “so bad, it’s good” and give us some new memes.

Instead… the Sonic movie was actually pretty decent! Critically, it did fine, and commercially was a big success for Paramount and Sega, so much so that a second movie was pretty much instantly greenlit. And yes, it has garnered enough faith and goodwill in Hollywood circles apparently to attract the incredibly talented Idris Elba to play Knuckles the Echidna. What a world we live in.
