As with other entries in the series, the side quests which require you to hunt down specific NPCs are some of Nier Replicant‘s trickiest, forcing you to explore the world without the clearest directions. Case in point: The Thieves in Training quest tasks you with finding some thieves who have been plaguing the Village market, and while you can discover their general location, the game doesn’t tell you how to find the thieves in Nier Replicant.
Fortunately for you, we’ve done the leg work and discovered their exact location. Read on to find out how to locate these sticky-fingered menaces, and what happens when you find them.
How to Find the Thieves in Nier Replicant (Thieves in Training Quest)
In order to find the thieves in Nier Replicant, you’ll first need to speak to every NPC with a clue in the Village.
This isn’t too hard to do, as all of the NPCs with clues can be found in the Market area in close proximity to the quest giver. They’ll point you toward a pair of children who typically hang out near the town’s water wheel. To reach their location though, you’ll need to take a route you probably haven’t had a reason to check out just yet.
Head through the entrance to the market area, and then immediately turn right. There’ll be a staircase you can take up to the arch hanging over the market entrance. Go up the stairs, and then walk across the arch toward the other side of the entrance. You’ll then encounter another staircase that leads down to a dock and the water wheel.
Head down the stairs to the water wheel, and you’ll find the thieves standing in the space to the left of it. You’ll discover that they’re siblings who were pressured into stealing by their father.
What Happens to the Thieves After You Report Them?
Fortunately, this is one of the quests in Nier Replicant that has a somewhat happy ending.
After discovering the thieves, you’ll be directed to the Village tavern to confront their father. After confirming his negative influence, you’ll then be able to work with the Item store owner and Popola to find the kids a new home. They can then be found in the Library’s upper level for the rest of the game, having been taken in by Popola.
