Valheim Raids Explained

While Valheim’s most potent enemies typically roam dangerous areas of the map you’re unlikely to set up camp, you aren’t necessarily always safe hiding out in your home base back in The Meadows. Here are Valheim’s Raids explained if you’re wondering what triggers them and how to survive them.

Valheim Raids Explained

Base Raids in Valheim can occur from the very start of the game, but they scale upwards in difficulty for every boss you beat. They can occur during either the day or night.

How to Start a Raid

You will know when a Raid has been triggered after you alerted that “The Forest Begins to Shake…”

You will then be faced with surviving several waves of enemies, which range from Boars and Deer at the lowest difficulty to Greywalker Shamands and even Trolls at higher difficulties.

It is important to note that if you are playing Valheim on a dedicated server on which, say, The Elder has been beaten, you will also experience Raids of this difficulty rating regardless of which bosses you have yourself beaten.

All Enemies at Every Valheim Raid Tier

Below we’ve broken down the enemies in each Raid tier.

  • Early Raids (can occur anytime after the first few days) – Deer, Boar, Nek, Greyling
  • Greydwarf Raids (will occur after beating Eikthyr) – Greylings, Greydwarfs, Greydwarf Shaman, Greydwarf Brute
  • Troll Raids (will occur after beating The Elder) – Trolls

How Valheim Raids Work

Regardless of enemy type, Raids will more or less play out exactly the same: enemies will rush your base until a hidden timer counts down to zero.

The amount of time they continue for is not dependent on how many you kill. In fact, you do not actually have to engage the enemies at all, but since they are capable of destroying your defences, it is advised you find some way to at least slow them down.

You should build walls around your camp as soon as possible, but one defence you may not have considered is to dig a trench. This will further slow enemies and reduce the chances of buildings being destroyed durings Raids.

That’s everything there is to know about Raids in Valheim.
