Destiny 2’s 2020 Festival of the Lost event is here and while it’s mostly the same and intact from last year, there are few small changes to the way that players can obtain loot such as Horror Story and Braytech Werewolf. However, the addition of Cipher Decoders is a noticeable change as players will need lots of them to get lots of random rolls on those weapons this year. Here’s the quickest way we have found to farm Cipher Decoders in Destiny 2’s Festival of the Lost 2020.
How to Farm Cipher Decoders Quick in Destiny 2
In most events in Destiny 2, such as The Dawning, Bungie showers players with gear, and usually the community ends up with more stuff than they know what to do with.
However, in Festival of the Lost 2020, Bungie is being a bit stingy with the candy. Not not the actual Candy, but rather the Cipher Decoders needed to get the real good stuff this year, the king-size candy bars if you will: the random rolls on Braytech Werewolf and Horror Story.
Cipher decoders can drop as a random world drop but can be more reliably obtained by completing any of the game’s core activities. However, the drop rate in those activities aren’t 100% and you could end up with some bad luck.
There’s no workaround here, but here are the two best ways to farm Cipher Decoders depending on whether you’re with other people or not.
If you’ve got a team of three, jump into either the Strike playlist or Nightmare Hunts (whichever you think you can do faster) and burn through them as fast as you can.
If you’re on your own though, as painful as it may be for the PvE players reading this, your best option is probably just to spam Crucible to farm Cipher Decoders quickly.
Crucible games tend to have a consistent length to them and you’re not at the mercy of your teammates not doing stupid things to slow you down. And, on the bright side, if you’re team is getting annihilated you could get mercy-ruled out and get a quick free roll at a Cipher Decoder.
Those are the fastest ways, as of week 1 of Destiny 2’s 2020 Festival of the Lost to farm Cipher Decoders. It’s possible that Bungie may adjust things in the future but we’ll have to wait and see.
