With the changes in season comes an all-new set of bugs and fish for the taking, and during the Summer months, you can look forward to some of the larger ocean fish on the market. The Ocean Sunfish is one of those fish, with its hefty frame, this fish will be one you won’t believe you’ve caught. In this Animal Crossing New Horizons Ocean Sunfish guide, we’ll discuss which seasons and times of day it will appear, how to catch it, and how much it sells for.
Ocean Sunfish Seasonality & Spawn Times
The Ocean Sunfish can be caught during the following months based on hemisphere:
- Northern Hemisphere: July – September
- Southern Hemisphere: January – March
During these months, the Ocean Sunfish can be found between the hours of 4am and 9pm, meaning you will be able to spawn this fish practically all day, leaving middle-of-the-night fishing to other species.
Catching the Ocean Sunfish in Animal Crossing New Horizons
To catch an Ocean Sunfish, you’ll want to get and equip a fishing rod, while patrolling the ocean coast on the lookout for fins.
Besides those fins popping out of the water, you can also keep an eye out for the largest of shadows to have a better chance at the Ocean Sunfish, but due to the random nature of fishing you’ll just be hoping with each cast.
Once you’ve found your target, you will want to cast out in front of the shadow with the A button.
Once the shadow takes a few swipes at your bobber, it will pull it under the water, signaling when you need to quickly hit the A button again to reel it in.
