Getting the Fishing Rod in Persona 4 Golden

Before you can start fishing in the Samegawa river, first you’ll need a fishing rod. The first thing you’ll want to do is head over to Tatsuhime Shrine and talk to the boy standing there. He’ll ask for either a drink or a food item; the drinks can be purchased from the vending machines at the Central Shopping District, while the food item can be purchased from Souzai Daigaku, also at the Shopping District.

Bring the item back to the boy and he’ll hand over a Tatsuhime Ladybug. After that, visit the pub in the Central Shopping District at night and talk to the lady, who will make a note of the Tatsuhime Ladybug. Hand over the bug so that she can feed it to her fish, and she’ll give you the fishing hook.

Finally, during the daytime, take the hook to the old man standing at Samegawa Floodplain and he’ll give you the fishing rod.

How to Fish

Now that you have the rod, you’ll be able to fish at the body of water in Samegawa Floodplain. The number of times you can cast your line is dependent on your Diligence stat, and you’ll also need to use the bread crumbs purchased from Shiroku Pub or bugs caught from the shrine as bait.

Cast your line and when you get a bite, a bar will appear at the bottom of the screen. Use the left stick to keep the marker in the center of the bar and when it’s in the blue portion of the bar, press the circle button to start reeling it in. As long as you only reel it in while the marker’s in the blue portion, you should be good. If not, the fish could wiggle away.

That’s all you need to know about how to get the fishing rod and fish in Persona 4 Golden. Be sure to search for Twinfinite for more tips and information on the game.
