You want to look for a small shadow in the water and it’s also worth mentioning that rainbowfish can only be found between the hours of 9 AM and 4 PM. It also has to be during the months of May – October.

Once you get your hands on a Rainbowfish, you can either donate it to the museum or sell it at Nook’s Cranny. Timmy and Tommy will buy it off you for 800 Bells, but if you wait for CJ to pop up on your island, he’ll buy it for 1200 Bells.
