Disco Elysium: Can You Romance? Answered

Developed by ZA/UM, Disco Elysium is a CRPG that puts you in the shoes of an amnesiac detective tasked with investigating a murder. You’ll have to talk to various NPCs to learn more about the circumstances surrounding the murder, and your progress is dependent on how good you are with people. Here’s what you need to know about romance options in Disco Elysium.

Can You Romance People in Disco Elysium?

To get right to the point, no, you cannot romance anyone in Disco Elysium. As mentioned before, you’ll be able to talk to a whole variety of different characters and NPCs –both male and female– and learn more about them. However, it’s impossible to actually romance them or get into a relationship with any of these characters.

There is one slight exception. On the very first day of the game, you’ll meet Klaasje, who’s the first NPC you encounter in Disco Elysium. While talking to her, there are romantic dialogue options that you can choose, and if your Suggestion stat is high enough and you can pass the dice check, you’ll be able to flirt with her.

This doesn’t actually lead to anything romantic, but does open up a few more dialogue options and lines that help to flesh out the main character a bit more.

Later on, you’ll meet another NPC named Lilienne, who can go on a date with you if you pick the romantic dialogue options. However, this date also seems to be strictly platonic by the end, and doesn’t lead to any sort of relationship you can get yourself into.

By and large, Disco Elysium is very focused on the murder mystery at hand, and romance isn’t really a priority in this game at all. So if you were hoping to get with your paramour of choice, sadly you won’t be able to.

Are there any romance options in Disco Elysium?

Sadly, no. You can go on a date with one character and flirt with others, but things are largely kept platonic.

That’s all you need to know about possible romance options in Disco Elysium. Be sure to search for Twinfinite for more tips and information on the game.
