Pokemon GO’s Buddy Adventure update has just released, bringing a bunch of new gameplay features to the popular mobile title. Players can now play with and feed their Buddy Pokemon to improve the relationship between them, which, in turn, has its own impact on gameplay. As part of this update, a new item called Poffin was introduced. Here’s how to get and use Poffins in Pokemon GO.
Getting Poffins in Pokemon GO
To get Poffins, all you need to do is press the Poke Ball at the bottom of the world screen, and tap ‘Shop.’
Here, underneath ‘Items,’ you’ll find the Poffins available for 100 coins each. Simply exchange the coins and they’ll be added to your Inventory.
What Do Poffins Do in Pokemon GO?
According to the in-game description, you should “Feed this special treat to your buddy, and it’ll happily join you on the map for an extended duration.”
In plain English, that means that your Buddy Pokemon will be able to accompany you longer on the map, in turn allowing you to earn more Candy in the process.
It will also help you fill the ‘Give Your Buddy a Treat’ option on the new Buddy Pokemon screen.
How to Use Poffins in Pokemon GO
To use Poffins in Pokemon GO, tap on your Buddy Pokemon’s icon next to your character’s in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen.
You should now see you Buddy Pokemon at the top of the screen with your progress on today’s activities below. Tap the ‘Play’ option underneath your Buddy Pokemon.
Now, you’ll need a large flat area. Wait until the colored Pokemon footprints appear on the screen. Tap these and your Buddy Pokemon will appear.
Tap on the Berry icon and select your Poffin from this menu. You can now use your Poffin to feed your Buddy Pokemon and make it happier.
Pokemon GO Buddy Level Perks
Thanks to a post over on the official Pokemon website, we now know that each of the different Buddy Levels you reach with your Buddy Pokemon will unlock specific perks. We’ve included this information below:
- Good Buddy – Your buddy can join you on your map view. You’ll also see how your buddy feels on the buddy profile screen.
- Great Buddy – Your buddy may help you out in Pokémon encounters, making it easier to catch wild Pokémon. It can also bring you items that may help you in your Pokémon GO journey.
- Ultra Buddy – Your buddy will help you explore the world around you by letting you know about interesting places nearby. It will also bring you Souvenirs, which you can keep track of on the buddy profile screen.
- Best Buddy – At this highest level, your buddy can sport a Best Buddy ribbon to show everyone your bond with it. Keep your Best Buddy as your active buddy, and it can receive a CP boost in combat.
