New Game Plus & True Vault Hunter Mode in Borderlands 3

If you played Borderlands 2 you’re likely familiar with the term True Vault Hunter Mode. If not, allow me to catch you up.

True Vault Hunter is effectively what New Game + is in Borderlands 3. In this game mode, enemies are harder but the loot is better too. All your equipment and stats carryover, but mission progress will reset.

Essentially, once you’re done with the regular game, unless you want the easier experience, there’s no reason to go back. You’re intended to carry on with new game plus through the True Vault Hunter mode so you can keep getting better loot and try and fight the harder versions of the game’s various enemies and bosses.

To unlock True Vault Hunter Mode and start this new game plus, you’ll need to complete the campaign of Borderlands 3 at least one time. Once you’ve done that you’ll be able to access it within the game’s menu.

In addition to True Vault Hunter mode, there are other end game activities for you to try your hand at including increasing your Guardian Rank. which is similar to Diablo 3’s paragon levels and Borderlands 2’s badass rank, along with Mayhem Mode, if you’re looking for a more customizable and controllable challenge in Borderlands 3 outside of True Vault Hunter mode.

Finally, over time Borderlands 3 will receive DLC and free seasonal event activities, so that should also keep you busy outside of pushing through the new game plus.

That’s all you need to know about how to start new game plus, AKA True Vault Hunter mode in Borderlands 3 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Happy vault hunting!
