Ever since its initial release back in 2017, Fortnite’s party system has always been limited to just four players. It’s been frustrating for large groups of friends who want to enjoy one of the large-scale limited time modes together. Thankfully, Fortnite Squad Formation has arrived, enabling players to make up to 16-player lobbies. Here’s everything you need to know about this new feature.
How to Make 16 Player Lobbies in Fortnite With Squad Formation
What Is Squad Formation in Fortnite?
First things first, it’s important to get an idea of exactly what Squad Formation is in Fortnite. Simply put, this new feature which is available from the lobby screen enables groups of up to 16 players to all hop into a single lobby and join a game of any game mode that supports more than four-player squads. We’ve broken down all of these eligible modes down below for you.
While you’ll all still be broken up into smaller four-player squads, it does mean that none of your friends have to miss out on playing within the same game as the rest of you.

To make use of the Squad Formation feature in Fortnite, simply make your way to the lobby screen. Begin inviting up to 15 of your friends and they’ll all begin to join the lobby. You’ll only open up Crab Squad once five players are in your lobby, Bear Squad with nine players, and Dragon Squad at thirteen players. Llama Squad is the name for your standard four-player squad.
