In a forum post, Funcom has announced that Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden fans will be getting a Stalker Trials mode later this month. This new endless mode will bring in a handful of changes to the base game to give players a new challenging way to play.
A significant aspect to Stalker Trials is the map and enemy changes made to the original game. Funcom says that the mode “will populate a selection of the game’s maps with different types of enemies to create new challenges.”
The forum post also explains in detail the effect the new mode will have on the game’s progression system.
“When you load up the Stalker Trials you’ll have access to all crew members, mutations and skills, but you’ll have to buy and upgrade weapons, Armor and headgear will be unlocked along the way. Once you head out you can choose a map to play through. Once you clear it, Pripp will score you on your progress and reward you with items. You can use these in a new map, or sell them at Iridia’s shop.”
Stalker Trials has been in open beta on PC for about a week if you want to get an early taste of the new mode. It should be noted that Funcom recommends you back up your saves so that any bugs the beta may have do not cause you to lose progress.
When the full Stalker Trials mode is released at the end of this month, it will only be available on PC initially. There are plans to bring the mode to consoles, but there is no release window yet.
It is exciting to see such a robust update coming to Mutant Year Zero only two months after release. The developer and publisher clearly care about supporting their game and adding an endless mode should keep fans busy while they wait to see what’s next.
