Kingdom Hearts III

2019 is yet another promising year for video games, packed with plenty of notable releases. January may not be the busiest month, as is usually the case, but there are some surprisingly big releases right at the beginning of the year. Although there’s nothing major during the first week, the second week brings a few titles like the remastered Onimusha: Warlords, the third episode of The Walking Dead: The Final Season, and Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition.

The latter is a long-anticipated version of Tales of Vesperia, finally bringing all of the exclusive content found in the PS3 version of the game to the west. A new character named Patty Lefleur, new cutscenes, and remastered graphics are just a few of the things added to the Definitive Edition.

January is actually a pretty good month all around for RPG fans, as just a week later the indie RPG YIIK hits, followed by the cult classic Trails of Cold Steel: Decisive Edition.

A host of smaller game releases hit leading up to the last week, which is where two big heavy hitters land. First up is Resident Evil 2, the stunning remake of the classic horror title. Once again players will roam the streets of Racoon City, this time in a new over-the-shoulder view. However, unlike some past titles, Resident Evil 2 is entirely based in survival horror and not action.

With expanded story segments, a gorgeous new graphical engine, and tense survival combat, Resident Evil 2 looks like a real treat for fans that have been requesting an updated version of the game for years.

Finally, January is capped off with the long-awaited release of Kingdom Hearts III. After nearly a decade of waiting, fans will finally be able to rejoin Sora and company and finish the Xehanort saga. Kingdom Hearts III adds a host of new Disney worlds into the mix including Tangled, Frozen, Toy Story, and Monster Inc., along with the return of some classic ones.

Of course, to go along with this there’s plenty of gameplay additions like Keyblade transformations that can actively change Sora’s weapon in combat. This time you’ll also have a max of five party members, meaning you won’t have to pick and choose who to bring.

Of course, the jump in hardware to PS4 also makes Kingdom Hearts III look absolutely stunning, nearly recreating the look and feel of each Disney movie.
