How to Take Down Gang Hideouts in Red Dead Online

Red Dead Online has finally launched in beta, a multiplayer experience in which players will traverse the Wild West in posses of up to eight players, engaging with various storylines and special events. Here’s how to take down gang hideouts in Red Dead Online.

Taking out gang hideouts looks set to become a fairly generic task that you’ll repeat throughout your Red Dead Online experience, either as a random encounter or part of a story quest. To that end, there’s one in the mode’s opening tutorial section to get you comfortable with the process.

You’ll first need to locate the gang hideout. The area should be represented with a red house icon on your map, surrounded by a yellow mist that you’ll be familiar with from the single-player portion of the game. Camps typically appear as you’d expect: a bunch of thugs hanging out around a few tents, wagons, and a fire.

From here, you simply need to take down the outlaws and you’ll have cleared the hideout. You can get weapons, ammo, and money as rewards for doing so.

Once you’ve cleared the outlaws, a yellow section will appear on your map to indicate there are items in the area of interest. Search containers and anything that looks as though it might contain loot within this area, and you’ll be able to get your rewards for clearing the hideout.

In the first hideout we saw, a bandit offered us a treasure map, as long as we didn’t kill them. We expect that hideouts scattered across the map will feature their own unique aspects, too, so be sure to pay attention.
