Elder Scrolls Online Developer ZeniMax Studios Making New IP For Consoles

An eagle-eyed ResetEra member has spotted a job listing over on developer ZeniMax Online Studios website, and it’s not for its popular Elder Scrolls Online title. Instead, the listing describes a programming role working on “an exciting new IP!”

ZeniMax Studios Online specializes in MMO games, so we’re guessing this latest project, which launches across console and PC platforms, falls under that category, too. It’s worth noting, though, that doesn’t necessarily mean we’re looking at another ESO-like traditional MMO experience. It could also be Division or Destiny-like, which often get lumped into the same bracket, and are obviously hugely popular these days.

Key takeaways from the job listing’s requirements include the desire for applicants to have experience with “in-house engines or commercial ones such as Unreal and Crytek/Lumberyard,” as well as “strong technical knowledge of Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC” and “MMO experience.”

Responsibilities:

  • Implement core engine tech
  • Turn engine architectural goals into reality
  • Develop core engine components (threading, object system, memory management, file system, etc.)
  • Work with engineers, artists, designers, world builders, and producers to match core engine features and performance to the game’s vision

Requirements:

  • 4+ years of game industry software development experience
  • Extensive engine programming experience on either in-house engines or commercial ones such as Unreal and Crytek/Lumberyard
  • History of implementing low-level tech in high-quality engineering teams
  • Strong technical knowledge of Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC
  • Robust programming skills/experience in C++
  • Credited on at least one published video game in a programmer role
  • Strong architecture and low-level performance programming skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Experience with network game client/server architecture

Desired Skills:

  • MMO development experience
