Assassin’s Creed Odyssey: How to Use Special Attacks

Here’s How to Use Special Attacks in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

One of the biggest changes between Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Origins is the drastically-reworked adrenaline system. In Origins, after building up enough adrenaline —displayed as the yellow bar at the bottom of the screen— players could press R1 and L1 (or their counterparts on other systems) to unleash a devastating attack. In Odyssey, though, that bar serves the player differently. Now, it’s split into segments for these moves. These attacks range from Spartan kicks to bull rushes and more. It is a new system so you might be a tad perplexed in determining how to use these special attacks. We have you covered. Here’s how to use special attacks in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.

How to Unlock Special Attacks in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

The first thing you’re going to want to do is actually unlock them within the game. Every time you level up, you earn one ability point. Your special abilities are purchased with these ability points. Some attacks cost one point, some two and so on. So first things first: purchase the ones you wish to use.

To do so, you’ll need to press the Options button on PS4, or the Menu button on Xbox One to open up the menu. From here, use R1 or RB to tab over to the Abilities tab.

You’ll now see all of the different abilities you’re able to purchase, though some you may not yet be able to afford. Once you’ve found the ones you want to use, select them and hold down X on PS4 or A on Xbox One to purchase them.

Then, you’ll assign the attack to one of four face buttons (or keys on a PC). When it’s time, assign it to the button of your choosing. After that, you’ll be all set.

Next time you find yourself in an enemy encounter, or around a citizen who you don’t like (if you play the more evil side of the line with Kassandra or Alexios), press L1, or it’s equivalent, and the assigned button of the special attack you wish to use.

If done correctly, you should see whatever move you selected play out and a segment of your yellow bar on the bottom of the screen depleted.
