Remedy Entertainment took to their website today to announce a new multiplayer focused division called Remedy Vanguard. This new development team appears to be an in-house division that will run concurrently with Remedy’s “core” teams to deliver “new types of ongoing live multiplayer game experiences”. Remedy has provided a detailed explanation of the new team.

“The small “Vanguard” development team will act with a startup mentality within the stability of a large company. Its mission is to challenge conventions and to prototype and ship new types of ongoing live multiplayer game experiences, alongside our established and growing core game development teams and the Northlight technology group.”

Remedy is well known for their single-player story driven experiences such as Alan Wake or Quantum Break, but this would not be the first time they have dabbled in the online space. Remedy had co-developed  a military based online FPS called Crossfire 2 with Korean developer Smilegate back in 2016.

At this time it is unclear if Remedy Vanguard will result in stand alone multiplayer titles or if this team will work with single-player titles currently in development like Control. Remedy is also taking applications for those adept at Unreal Engine 4. The open positions are currently for a Senior Gameplay Programmer and Gameplay Designer.
