Pokemon: Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee Will Require a Nintendo Online Subscription, No Wonder Trade

The Pokemon Switch games were unveiled just last week as Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee, and players were naturally excited about the Red, Blue, and Yellow games getting a major remake on Nintendo’s latest console. However, if you were wondering about the game’s online functionality, you might be in for a little disappointment as some key features from the past few 3DS games will be missing.

In a statement made to Game Informer, Nintendo mentioned that players will need to subscribe to the Switch online service. In addition to that, Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee will not feature Wonder Trade, GTS, or Battle Spot, which were available in Pokemon X and Y, as well as Sun and Moon.

‘We’ve now received clarification from The Pokémon Company regarding the Let’s Go games’ online situation. In a statement to Game Informer, the company said both games will have online capabilities, but they’ll be limited compared to previous Pokémon games. Players will only be able to battle and trade Pokémon with their friends. “There is no GTS, Wonder Trade, or Battle Spot (Rating Battle, Free Battle, and Online Competition, etc.),” the company said. Players will also need to sign up for a Nintendo Switch Online subscription to access them.

The Pokémon Company also said it would provide additional details at a later date.’

Players will still get to trade and battle with each other, but the online experience may be a bit more limited than what they’re used to.

Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee are set to be released for the Switch on Nov. 16.
