Dragon Quest XI Is Still Coming to Switch, But It’s Going to Take a While More

Dragon Quest XI is one of the biggest Square Enix JRPGs that will be coming to the PS4 and PC this year. When it was originally announced for a Japanese release, the developers had also confirmed that the game would be coming to Nintendo’s new console. Now that it’s out in Japan, and the western release date is looming ever closer, the question remains: when exactly is the Switch version releasing?

Polygon got to speak with game director Takeshi Uchikawa and producers Hokuto Okamoto and Hikari Kubota, and they confirmed that they were still working on the Switch port.

“We’re making it,” said Okamoto. “We’re still making it. I can’t say anything more.”

“When we first announced [Dragon Quest 11], the Switch hadn’t come out yet, and the development kit also wasn’t finalized,” he said. “The hardware specs weren’t out yet, but we were like, ‘We can manage this. We can put this out on the Switch.’”

Dragon Quest XI is to be released for the PS4 and PC on Sept. 4.
