How to Beat Ancano in Skyrim
Skyrim is filled with all sorts of interesting personalities, some good and others evil. As such, you’ll be facing plenty of powerful foes throughout the game. One particular enemy you’ll stumble upon is an Altmer mage named Ancano. You’ll meet this sinister snake down at the College of Winterhold who serves as an advisor to Arch-Mage Savos Aren. Here’s how to beat Ancano in Skyrim.
During the fight, you should already have the Staff of Magnus under your arsenal. Don’t try fighting the mage head on since he’ll be invincible as long as the Eye of Magnus is open. What you’ll want to do is use your staff to close the eye by attacking it. Avoid any of Ancano’s attacks during this phase and just focus on the floating eye in the middle of the battlefield.
Once the eye is fully closed, you can go all out on the Altmer mage. You can use any spell or weapon under your arsenal, but since he’s a magic user, he’s more susceptible to close-ranged attacks. Any fire-type spells will also be effective, so make sure to stock up on tomes before the fight. Occasionally, he’ll try and open the eye again, so when that happens, just whip out your staff and close that eye.
