How to Break Into the Hive
God of War has Kratos and Atreus exploring the nine realms of Norse mythology, unravelling a tangled web of godly deceit. The second realm that you’ll visit in the game is Alfheim, home of the Light Elves and Dark Elves. When you arrive the two races are locked in war, and a massive Dark Elf hive has overtaken the citadel that the Ligh Elves live in. After going through the realm and completing various objectives, you’ll eventually stumble upon the entrance to the hive itself, and there’s a puzzle you need to solve to get in. It can be a bit confusing, however, so we’ll help guide you through.
The entrance to the hive is the same kind of puzzle you’ve been encountering throughout Alfheim, having to chop fleshy strands with your axe. In this case, you need to throw your axe just right so it cleaves through three different strands, and you’ll need to do that three times. You want to look at the big veins running above the area, and find the three strands that are all connected to that vein, then line yourself up right to chop them all.
Go straight ahead to the entrance to the hive, where the blue light is behind a strand, then turn around and look slightly to the right. You should be able to line up three strands just right, then make the throw. After that go to the strand still remaining near where the other three were. Now face yourself behind it and look toward the other two strands, then line your shot up and throw. Finally, you’ll see the final three strands left, so head behind the one furthest from the entrance, line up your shot, and throw. Now you’ll be able to access the hive and continue the story. If you need a little more help breaking in, you can see a video representation over on our YouTube channel.
