NieR: Automata – How to Upgrade Your Weapons

Recommended Videos

You’ll definitely want to upgrade your weapons in NieR: Automata as that’s the best way of increasing your damage output and improving your combo chaining abilities. More than that, though, upgrading weapons is also the only way for you to actually unlock weapon stories and get the full lore and history behind the weapon you’re swinging around.

You’ll be able to start upgrading them as soon as you reach the Resistance Camp in the City Ruins. You’ll unlock it after completing the prologue mission and gaining access to the game’s open world. Once here, you’ll have to progress through the main story a little bit before you can talk to the weapons seller. Once you’ve unlocked him, he’ll sell you weapons and offer you the option to upgrade them. You’ll need to pay a good sum of money to increase your weapon level, and you’ll need to bring him the required materials as well. Once you have the money and materials to do so, talk to the seller and he’ll do the rest. You can upgrade your weapons at any weapon shop you find in the game, but the guy in the Resistance Camp is the first one you’ll find.
